Online Training: Turbomachinery and Rotating Passages

A presentation will be made of available options for modeling turbomachinery (pumps, turbines, compressors) both as black box components as well as subcomponent modeling (leakage passages, coolant passages, etc.). An overview of rotating passage options (with both co-rotating and independently rotating walls) will also be provided. Finally, some examples will be given of load balancing in turbopump and turbocharger systems: predicting shaft speeds to balance torques in both steady-state and transients (using co-solved ODEs). The class consists of presentations with brief examples based in FloCAD and SinAPS.

Prerequisites: Basic understanding of turbomachines, power cycles, and of FLUINT
