Refraction Example - Converging Lens
In this example, a converging lens is built by placing two small slivers of the top of a sphere on opposite faces. The slivers are made specularly transparent, and the refraction for this example is set to 1.4. A disk is placed so that rays shot normal from the disk will pass through the lens (Set the optical property of the disk to NORMAL). A collector disk (emissivity of one) is placed at the calculated focal point. One the model has been setup, the following steps must be taken: Turn on ray plotting with the RadCAD->Radiation Calculations->Set Ray Plot Option command. Set the number of rays to 10 with the RadCAD->Radiation Calculations->Set Ray Parameters command. A large number of rays only seems to clutter up the screen. Use the RadCAD->Radiation Calculations->Set Nodes to Calculate command to only shoot rays from the bottom disk. Calculate the radks with the RadCAD->Radiation Calculations->Calc Radks Ray Trace command. The rays will appear on the screen. The rays may be deleted with the RadCAD->Radiation Calculations->Clear Ray Plot command.
