When opening a file created in Autodesk Mechanical Desktop using AutoCAD Mechanical, the following message may appear:

that did it, thanks. Interestingly, my model was working fine on Friday when I created it. But, over the weekend there was either a forced reboot or a power outage with an automatic reboot. I am wondering if that caused the glitch. What I usually do is import the STEP file and create the TD model around it, and then delete the STEP file. When I restarted TD this morning and opened the model I got the error.

Seems that function (AMCATALOG) is not existing anymore on AutoCad Mechanical 2010 (for 64 bit) any other suggestions?

Sorry I did not see your post earlier (sometimes we are not notified of changes to the forum). If you read the first post again, you will see that AMCATALOG is a Mechanical Desktop command and not an AutoCAD Mechanical command. If you do not have Mechanical Desktop and you are not up to TD 5.3 Patch 3d, then you can open Vanilla AutoCAD (listed simply as AutoCAD 20xx in the Start > Programs menu) and open the dwg directly. The file should open.

The best way found to convert a DWG file from Autodesk Mechanical Desktop using AutoCAD 2010 and later is to follow these steps:

- Open AutoCAD (Start > Programs > Autodesk > AutoCAD Mechanical 20xx > AutoCAD 20xx).
- Select File > Open and choose the DWG file
- Select File > Save As and change the file type to AutoCAD 2007
- Exit AutoCAD
- Double-click on the new file to see that it works (it will likely open using AutoCAD Mechanical)

If the error no longer appears but you would like to use AutoCAD as the default application, select File > Save As from within AutoCAD Mechanical and select AutoCAD 2007 as the format as opposed to AutoCAD Mechnical. The file should now open with AutoCAD by default.

If the error is not eliminated, type TdPurgeBlocks while in AutoCAD prior to performing the Save As (step 3 above).
